Meet C4Q Grad Erica Stevens

I am a creator, an innovator, a software engineer.

However, not too long ago, I never thought a career in technology would even be an option for me. When I was younger, I had always been fascinated by computers but had no idea I could learn to code or build software as a fulfilling career. Previously, I had worked as a janitor, a babysitter, a personal assistant, still struggling to make ends meet to cover even the basic necessities for myself. That all changed when I learned about C4Q’s Access Code program.

It truly transformed my life. Life at C4Q was everything I imagined it would be and so much more. As a C4Q fellow, I faced many challenges that almost prevented me from graduating. My father, who had been covering my transportation costs, fell ill and could no longer help me financially. Soon after, my living situation became unstable and I became homeless. I couch-surfed, slept on trains, or in familiar parks when there was no other option.

But through it all, C4Q was willing to do whatever they could to help me. From providing a Metrocard scholarship, paid learning opportunities, and a summer internship -- C4Q supported me in so many ways. Through hard work, commitment, and the skills I learned at C4Q, I am blazing the trail for myself, my family, and my community.  I am now a software engineer at a Fortune 500 company.

Please make a gift to C4Q, and support the next generation of tech leaders like me!

Sincerely,

Erica Stevens, C4Q Alumna 2017
